Somatic Calm

Neuroscience-informed psychotherapy and mental health intervention

At the core of my work is unconditional positive regard. I am here to support and be a sounding board. From there I use different approaches based on my clients’ needs and preferences. My practice is based on a neuroendocrinological and genomic perspective of emotion, using aspects of gestalt, cognitive-behavioral, creative, and other therapy approaches. I became a psychotherapist after my own healing journey from post-traumatic stress disorder after working as a hotline counselor on the night of the 9/11 tragedy in New York City.  Now symptom-free, personal experience was a seed that grew into my theoretical orientation.

Helping people through the therapeutic process is a true joy.  As a natural rationalist, I tend to be directive while having patience and looking for effective ways to reach goals. Clients have also described me as warm, open-minded, and flexible. I have worked with clients through PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, traumatic brain injury, anger, inhibitions, emotional habits, neurodivergence, and other life challenges.  I am also a researcher, currently working on a randomized-controlled trial.

Kiai is pronounced “key-eye”. I am most comfortable with pronoun she, but any will do.
